Self-drive SUV expedition to Iceland
Iceland, a sparsely populated island with the North Atlantic all around it and magma bubbling through its crust, is a wild and remote place. That hasn’t stopped tourists flocking to pint-sized Reykjavik.
Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country’s capital and largest city. The striking concrete Hallgrimskirkja church and rotating Perlan glass dome offer sweeping views of the sea and nearby hills.
Seljalandsfoss, one of the best known waterfalls in Iceland. The waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls and natural wonders in Iceland. If you are lucky, you will experience crisp air in your lungs and unbridled beauty dancing overhead by the view of Northern Lights.
During this tour, you will experience driving a 4×4 SUV through snow, rivers and off road terrain drives. The views there are magnificent over the south coast of Iceland as well as to the great volcanoes surrounding the area. There are many exciting challenges where you require good driving skills to get to the certain valleys.
6 nights’ stay on twin sharing basis including breakfast,
1-night stay in Mountain Huts in a sleeping bag,

Arrival – Reykjavik. Hotel Check In
On the first day, the group will arrive into Keflavik International Airport and transfer to the hotel at Reykjavik. This day is free to look around in the world’s most northerly capital city which, along with its surroundings, is also home to 70% of the country’s population. You can visit the Hallgrimskirkya church or spend time at the numerous restaurants & pubs that line the charming streets of Downtown Reykjavik, also known by it postal code as 101.
You will be picked up from the hotel by an instructor for a brief demonstration and introduction at their headquarters. Driving a modified 4×4 truck with an instructor is truly a unique experience. You leave Reykjavik in the morning and drive towards the South coast. You will be offered a modified Toyoto Hilux on 38” tyres for the ultimate self drive tour and under the guidance of our instructor you will be able to deal with the challenging tracks on this unique adventure trip.
This is where the action really starts – rough tracks, glaciers, rivers, beaches and rugged scenery are all part of this amazing tour. On this day you will drive to the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss, Skojafoss and then proceed to Dyrholaey & the black sand beaches with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and mountains on the other. Driving on the beaches with aired down tiers gives the 4×4 truck enhanced driving ability while surfing the sand for some pure driving fun. By evening you travel to the hotel and reflect on the amazing scenery witnessed through the day. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

You begin with driving along the south shore making your first detour to the Porsmork valley – the home of the legendary Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. Porsmork is a mountain ridge and valley situated between the rivers Krossa, Thronga and Markarfljot.
Driving through snow, rivers and off road terrain will take up a majority of your day in this protected area. The views there are magnificent over the south coast of Iceland as well as to the great volcanoes surrounding the area. BY evening, you will return to your hotel in Hella for a warm dinner and a rest to refresh yourself for the next day’s driving.

On our way to Landmannalaugar you will drive around the flanks of Hekla, the most active volcano in Europe. Your route takes you through a landscape that has gone through dramatic changes since the settlement with a myriad of lava flows from different craters and fissures.
There are many exciting challenges where you require good driving skills to get to the valley. One particular pleasure is to first take a romp in the snow and then go straight in to the naturally heated hot springs, pure bliss! On this day, we sleep inside sleeping bags (will be provided) in dormitory-style mountain huts. This is truly a camping experience with a gathering under the stars!
The Golden Circle, is a popular tourist route where the area that contains most tours and travel related activities in Iceland.
The primiary stops on the route are the Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal area in Haukadalur, which contains the geysers Geysir and Strokkur. Though Geysir has been mostly dormant for many years, Strokkur, on the other hand, continuous to erupt every 5-10 minutes.
You then drive to our hotel, also a stud farm, where we freshen up and meet for dinner in the inhouse restaurant.
Today you ride the famous Volcano Horses of Iceland taking in the scenic surroundings covered in a white layer.
After this we proceed to the Pingvellir National where the continental drift between the North America and Eurasian Tectonic Plates can be clearly seen in the cracks or fault which traverse the region. This is one of the rare places in the world where two different tectonic plates are so clearly visible and remarkably differentiated by a height of nearly 50 feet. The Waterfall Oxarafoss crossing over from the North American to the Eurasian plates is a marvel to look at.
If the weather permits, we will drive through the rugged terrain of Kaldidalur before driving to your hotel, where you will enjoy a dinner overlooking the magnificent Fjord.

Car drop off
You will leave after breakfast and drive back towards Reykjavik, where, after fin-filled days of off-roading and adventures, you will drop off the cars at the rental company’s office. Then proceed to the Blue Lagoon, where we can relax as an adventure packed trip concludes.
Then return to the vibrant city of Reykjavik where you can enjoy a free evening & night. The group will by now have made friends for life and had experiences that will last a lifetime!
The group flies out of Keflavik International Airport as per individual flights.
All items of personal nature: e.g. telephone call bills, fax/email, laundry services bills etc.
Tips and gratuities to hotel, lodges, camp staffs and driver/guides. In most cases tips and gratuities are at the sole discretion of the clients.

Prices given are starting from, per person based on 2 persons travelling together and sharing twin/double room, subject to seasonal surcharges and availability.
ITL World reserve the right to amend the prices in case of currency fluctuations, changes in rates of exchange, and/or fuel costs, special or high season charges and hike in the airline/hotel/rail/land transportation charges before the date of departure.
For convenience of passengers and / or feasibility of operations, ITL World or their service providers may sometimes amend the itinerary.
International hotel check in time is between 2pm and 3pm and check out time is between 11am and 12pm. (Exceptions apply). Early check in and or late check-out is subject to availability of rooms and may be chargeable.
It is the responsibility of the passengers to ensure they hold valid passport, visa, travel and medical insurance, vaccination etc., as applicable for each destination.
To assist with visa application process, ITL World would provide copies of air tickets, travel insurance and other ground service vouchers for bookings made and fully paid for. Approval and issuance of visa is at the discretion of respective Embassies or Consulates and ITL World cannot in anyway influence this process. Certain nationals however receive visa on arrival in select countries, subject to prior online approvals.
City/tourist tax as applicable, must be paid directly at the hotel.
