Places to See

There is lots to keep you occupied in and around Marbella but no doubt you’ll want to explore a bit further. Puerto Banús marina is one of Costa del Sol places to be seen and celebrity-watch and Marbella is also a must – in particular Marbella Old Town ‘casco histórico’, a rabbit-warren of narrow, flower-filled streets, the famous Orange Tree Square ‘plaza de los naranjos’ with its 16thC town hall, the remains of the Arab castle and city walls. Marbella has two municipal markets for fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, cheeses, olives, flowers and much more.

The easiest places to see to get to from Villa La Sorpresa are:
Seville
· The Cathedral, the third largest in the world, which houses the tomb of Columbus.
· The Alcázar, the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe.
· The Archive of the Indies, the repository housing the documents that record the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines. The building is one of Seville’s fine renaissance structures.

Granada
Three sites have World Heritage status:
· The Alhambra
· The Generalife
· The Albayzin quarter

Things to do Marbella
The Beach
The nearest beach is less that ten minutes away, straight down the Ronda road from Villa La Sorpresa. Parking is free on the promenade although you may see an attendant at busy times, and they are licensed by the town hall.

Activities
If wind or kite surfing is your thing head for Tarifa on Andalucía’s Atlantic coast, rated as one of the world’s top 10 surfing destinations, with windy conditions year-round. The beaches on this coast have fine, white sand but the sea can be too rough for very young children. Bolonia beach is a real favourite, with 50m high dunes to climb. The Costa de la Luz is a protected nature reserve in most places and there is very little construction.

Need to know
Smoking: Smoking, including electronic devices, is not allowed anywhere within the house. Smoking is allowed on the swimming pool terrace only where smoking material may be safely extinguished in the receptacles provided. Please be aware that carelessly discarded cigarettes butts cause bush fires every year in Spain and this is a real hazard in El Madroñal, given the wooded environment.

First Aid Kit: A first aid kit is available in the laundry room. Please keep it out of the reach of small children and please advise our manager of items used so they may be replaced.

Nearest pharmacy: Urb. Monte Halcones. Head towards San Pedro, go past La Heredia and Monte Halcones is the next turning on the left, journey time 2 minutes. There is a pharmacy just by Burger King as you enter San Pedro.

Nearest 24hr pharmacy: In the main street of San Pedro, just below the pedestrianised section.

Nearest Hospital, Out-Patients, Accident & Emergency: Hospital Costa del Sol; a 400-bed modern hospital located 7kms to the east of Marbella on the N340 coast road. Look for the Los Monteros exit, use the flyover to get to the hospital which is on the north side of the road. There is a team of volunteer translators. E.U. citizens: make sure you have your EHIC cards up-to-date before you leave home.

Public transport: Bus stop and ticket kiosk on the San Pedro boulevard for buses to Ronda, Estepona, La Linea (for Gibraltar), Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Málaga and the airport.

Nearest cash dispenser: at the BP petrol station at San Pedro industrial area roundabout.

Nearest supermarkets:
SuperCor: very useful for basics if you arrive late on a late flight or the weekend as they are open from 07.00 – 01.00hrs everyday but remember we can arrange for basics, bread, juice, fruit etc., to be delivered prior to your arrival by arrangement. Bread baked fresh throughout the day.

Mercadona: Spain-wide chain focusing on in-season produce, own label Haciendo. Good prices, always excellent fresh fish and meat. Go down Ronda road and take the turning for the BP garage. Go right round the roundabout and take the last exit, Mercadona is 500m down on the right. 09.00 – 21.30hrs. Closed Sundays even in summer.

Nearest Department store: El Corte Inglés, Puerto Banús. Huge food hall. 10.00 – 22.00hrs Monday – Saturday. Closed Sundays except in July and August, 10.30 – 22.30hrs and first 2 Sundays of September, 10.00 – 22.00hrs. Also opens Sundays in the run up to Christmas, New Year and Easter.

Public holiday shopping hours in Spain are still relatively restricted. Once you have booked will advise you if your dates include any local or national holidays so you can shop accordingly.

Nearest Airport:
45 km to Malaga Airport (AGP)
69 km to Gibraltar International Airport.

Guests must abide by the rules specified in the statutes of the Community of Owners in El Madroñal, a copy of which is provided, and generally conduct themselves in an acceptable manner. We reserve the right to terminate a client’s contract if this condition is not met and accept no liability for any subsequent circumstance that may arise.
